2011 Stratus Sémillon

With just the right amount of zest, the clean bite of grapefruit harmoniously mingles with a creamy beeswax and honey finish. A nose of new oak, vanilla and a hint of spice.

Light in body but rich in texture, this wine will pair perfectly with Thanksgiving and autumn fare such as root vegetables, savoury herbs and roasted turkey or ham. Equally satisfying to enjoy tucking into an afternoon cheese board. 

With determined vineyard practices, uncompromising fruit selection and de-classification standards, Stratus has once again successfully captured the nuances of our vineyard. Average winter temperatures were interrupted by a few extreme cold spells, however our wind machines provided the necessary air inversion for protection.

Higher than usual precipitation, along with growing degree days lower than average throughout spring, made for a slightly slower start. Budbreak occurred in mid-May. Diligent leaf removal and fruit thinning ensured vine health and high fruit quality-summer temperatures were above average and quite dry. Our rich soils, with good humus (organic matter) alleviated water stress in the vineyard.

Maturity was reached by early autumn — particularly in our white varietals and the last of the reds were harvested on November 26th.Icewine was picked on the morning of January 2nd. It certainly made for a Happy New Year!
