2023 Stratus 'Trials' Petit Verdot Zero Zero

Plush, bouncy and full of Petit Verdot oomph, this triumphant trial is bursting with freshness and intrigue. The colour is bright, vivid and intense with an almost magenta aura.

A comforting nose of fir, balsam and cardamom is followed by a juicy palate of ripe black plum, blue fruit compote, violet and whimsical bubblegum. It’s perky, energizing and feels like an endorphin rush after a new PB. The wine opens up quickly with serious tannins and an explosive core yet its lively acidity results in a light and revitalizing finish. 

The weather in 2023 played a crucial role in shaping the vintage in the Niagara Peninsula. A mild winter followed by a warm spring led to an early budbreak, raising hopes for an abundant harvest. However, the summer brought some unexpected challenges, including sporadic heatwaves and intermittent, heavy rainfall. Winemakers had to closely monitor their vineyards to mitigate potential issues such as disease and uneven ripening. The careful management of the vines, coupled with the utilization of advanced viticultural practices, ensured the grapes reached optimal maturity. Accordingly, fruit quality was excellent.
