The growing season in Niagara began with a mild winter and no spring frost events, resulting in no significant vine damage. Warmer-than-usual spring temperatures led to an early start to the season, with some growers reporting growth up to a week ahead of normal. Summer was characterized by above-average temperatures, warm days, and unusually warm evenings, with a reduced diurnal temperature range that contributed to intense flavour and colour development in the grapes. Veraison occurred up to five days earlier than usual for some varieties. Harvest conditions were favourable, with warm September temperatures and some humidity associated with extreme weather events. Although disease pressure posed some risk, particularly for white varieties, growers who delayed harvesting their red grapes achieved exceptional ripeness and balanced acidity, drawing comparisons to the outstanding 2020 vintage.
